Sofia Buen


Sofia moved to New Plymouth in early 2023 for family reasons after living in Australia for almost 20 years. She is originally from the Philippines.

She is a registered Clinical Psychologist both in Australia and New Zealand and have worked with a diverse range of clients in providing evidence-based psychological services to address various mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, sleep disorders, and relationship difficulties. 

She has extensive experience and training in psychological treatment for trauma through her work with current serving members of the military and veterans. She draws on various psychotherapy approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), ACT, DBT, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused-CBT, and Compassion Focused Therapy.

Prior to training as a psychologist, Sofia worked in the Australian Government for more than ten years in different capacities. This includes delivering services in remote indigenous communities in the Northern Territory and providing assistance to refugees and asylum seekers.

Sofia enjoys hiking, fishing, and traveling.
